British Hairdressing Awards FINALISTS (2023)
Contemporary Salons we're proud to have not one, but TWO finalists at the British Hairdressing Awards 2023, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional. Business Director Of The Year Winner (2019)
Alan Simpson, Managing Director of Contemporary Salons, picked up the top honour of Business Director of the Year at HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards 2019. Alan Simpson, who has run his salon group for 27 years since first launching a Contemporary Salon in Guisborough in 1992, won the ultimate accolade of the evening, thanks to his strength of vision and strong business growth over the last year. Alan said: “I feel on top of the world right now. I need to thank the team who work so hard every day. Salon Group Of The Year Winner (2018 & 2019)
For two years running (2018 and 2019), Contemporary Salons has been named Salon Group of the Year at the Hair Magazine Awards. The awards are judged by some of hairdressing’s best-known names and saw us up against some incredibly tough competition, so to claim the title for two years running is an incredible achievement! Contemporary Salons Managing Director Alan Simpson says: "We work hard at what we do so it's exciting to have our success recognised by respected organisations within the industry. We are committed to bettering ourselves at every opportunity."
Best Salon Group (2018)
Contemporary has been named the country’s Best Salon Group in the Salon Business Awards 2018. Managing Director Alan Simpson collected the award on the night and thanked the hardworking, passionate team ‘for their continued dedication’ and our incredible clients ‘for their loyalty and support.’ Winning awards is always a huge honour but these accolades are particularly special, given that they are judged by some of the hairdressing industry's most respected names. L'Oreal Colour Trophy (2019, 2018 & 2017)
We are also delighted to be able to regularly compete in the L'Oreal Colour Trophy competition which recognises the best hair colourists in the industry. Many of our stylists across Contemporary Salons have enjoyed success over the years. In 2018, Contemporary Salons in Guisborough and Harrogate made it into the semi-finals of this hard-fought competition, while in 2017 Contemporary Guisborough’s Alan Simpson and Claire Morley and Contemporary Hair Academy's Stephen Chapman and Laura Connaughton were shortlisted in the Men’s category. Karen Storr-Simpson and Laura Connaughton from the Contemporary Hair Academy were also up for the Colour Trophy Award. Read more here.
Contemporary Salons' Annual Awards
We love to celebrate success and recognise talent at the Contemporary Salon Group which is why we hold an annual awards event. While this has not been able to go ahead in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid, we were delighted to be able to celebrate the achievements of 2019 with an awards evening at Grade 1 listed Acklam Hall in Middlesbrough.
Guests were greeted with arrival drinks, followed by a three-course meal, before we recapped on Contemporary’s success in 2019 – including winning the coveted Business Director of the Year title at the British Hairdressing Business Awards.
The highlight of the night came as the results of the annual awards were announced to the team. Yarm was named Salon of the Year and Amanda Day was revealed as the Franchisee of the Year. There were also job promotions for five hardworking team members, who each received a framed certificate.
